I ordered the Trekker’s Friend from Chris earlier this year just a few weeks before leaving for a 3-month bicycle trip to Europe because I broke my collarbone in a ski accident and I couldn’t cycle or carry a backpack. I’m so glad I did because it saved my trip! I live in Canada and my order arrived in just a few days. I got to assemble and try it with a few different packs to get a feel of it. I finally opted for my largest one, a 80 liters Arc’terix.
It is by far the lightest carrier on the market, which suited me because I had to take the plane with it. Plus, because of the way it’s tied to the pack, it’s very easy to assemble and to take apart. It’s very compact. It completely holds in a small daypack which I was able to tie to my pack thanks to the carabiners provided.
On the road, once attached to the waist belt (I couldn’t use the full harness at first) I found it incredibly easy to use. I adjusted the length of my poles and the height of the straps where they attach to the waist so as not to feel the weight of the pack. The wheel bearing are of a great quality and are amazingly smooth. The treads on the tires wore out a little faster than I thought but it has no incidence since they’re not inflatable. I found this rather convenient, they’re incredibly light and the rubber has a perfect density to roll smoothly and effortlessly on any type of terrain. I couldn’t even feel most of the cracks and gaps.
I was able to easily haul my pack on buses and trains with no issues, and I even got to haul it behind hired bikes for short rides.
I hope to be back on my bike for my next trip but I’ll surely use my Trekker’s Friend again soon for hiking.
