After my last hike, carrying a 22 kilo load on my back for 5 days, I decided there had to be a better way. I came home and searched the Internet for ways to pull my load behind my instead of on my back. Blisters on my feet and extreme weariness were my motivators. The pickings were few and far between and mostly very expensive and only available in Europe. They were also unable to be carried on your back in areas where a trolley cannot go.
Then this year I happened on the Trekker’s Friend and it was exactly what I had been thinking of, just the thing to do the heavy lifting of the load with the ability to where the load when necessary. And it is not expensive.
I love my Trekker’s Friend. When walking on flat surfaces I have to keep checking if it is still behind me it is so light and easy. When walking up steep inclines you feel the weight a bit on your thighs which is fine. I had thought it might be noisy rolling behind me, impinging on the beautiful silence you get when walking in the bush, but it isn’t, you can hardly hear it.
